Ikea Introduces movable sleeping capsules to the streets of Paris!
OUTLINE
T3Systems teamed up with Distri-com to deliver this outstanding project for Ikea.
8 units were created and attached to electric bikes providing local Parisians with the chance to have a much-needed power nap during the working day. Short naps or Siestas are important to recharge our batteries and increase our focus! Ikea needed a solution that was durable, flexible, and lightweight; enter T3 Systems and Distri-com.
OUTCOME
The entire cabin is constructed using our iconic T3Frame system mounted onto a trailer. All components are assembled without tools and our curves and angles are made to measure for a custom finish like no other. The graphic finish was applied using Velcro and Foamex panels of 3mm thickness.
The capsule included many of Ikeas key furnishings, mattress, duvets, pillows, cushions, curtains, and bedside tables.
Part of the challenge was creating a window and door that would work appropriately for constant use. From our recent launch of T3Safegaurd we quickly used those same principles of partition design for the window section. Turning our fabric extrusion to face internally and become the groove with which a plexiglass panel could slide into and ‘lock’ into place. The results worked extraordinarily well. With the obvious movement of a bike through the cobbled streets of Paris our window and door design worked very well.
The door needed to be large enough to be able to climb in and out but also to get the bed and other furniture inside. We used our new hinge profile and our structural braces to secure the door and provide rigidity and strength. By using a velcro panel we could reduce any bend or flex that could have occurred after frequent use.
